Hi. My name is Johanna. In 2020, after a decade or so travelling the globe as a private chef, my dog and I returned home to the Comox Valley from Costa Rica. I am delighted to be back with the awesome Studio team, and share the room with such a disciplined, dedicated, and kind group of practioners.
The Studio is where I took my first Bikram class back in 2007. On that day I promised myself I would never come back. Thankfully, I broke that promise and by class number two I was hooked, completing teacher training in 2008. Coming from a dance and martial arts background, Bikram filled my desire for a physically demanding and disciplined practice. Over a decade later, that physical challenge continues; however, the meditative quality of the series and it’s effect on my mental well being has become equally valued. I love to share with practitioners the series’ balance of effort and calm.
When not in the hot room, I enjoy practicing yin, kundalini, vinyasa… really any yoga going☺ . I will complete yin teacher training in winter 2021.
Outside of yoga, I work as a plant-based chef here in the Valley, and recently became a new mom.
What a delight to work through challenges and witness positive change together. As said by Thich Nhat Hanh, “No mud, no lotus”.
